Photographing a hair model for Enjoy Haircare

by Robert on October 20, 2010

In September I met with Elaine Woolf and Doug Smith – two highly skilled hairstylists, to plan a photoshoot. We decided to color and style a male model using products from the Enjoy line of hair care products. That way we could submit the photos and a video clip to a friend of Elaine’s who owns the company. I spent a couple of weeks searching for handsome model with long hair, and finally I met Arno, a fantastic looking model from France.

On the day of the shoot we all met at the Vivace salon in Del Mar. While Arno got his hair highlighted I set up the studio lighting and backdrop. I shot intermittent video clips during Arno’s transformation. We took still photos at three different locations, in the salon with a red background, at the bar at the L’Auberge Del Mar, and in a graffiti-covered tunnel under the railroad tracks in old Del Mar. Elaine and Doug changed Arno’s attire and hairstyle to correspond with each location.

After the shoot I edited the video clips using iMovie, then uploaded the finished 2-minute video onto YouTube. I also submitted the video to Enjoy because they just happened to be having a video contest. To date our short video has had 2,500 views, so I would say that it is a very good vehicle for promotion. I’ve contacted other stylists to try to produce more hair videos, because they’re a lot of fun to do. Here’s the video:
